Evaluation of the effect of two different bonding techniques and polishing on enamel cracks

Objective:
The objectives of this study were determine the effects  of two different bonding techniques and shear bond strength  on enamel surface and evaluation of enamel cracks after removing remnant of asdhesives and polishing.
Methods & Materials:
 Sixty upper central incisors were randomly divided in two equal groups.in first group metal brackets were bonded with Transbond XT and in other group were bonded with Maxcem Elite.The shear bond strength of both bonding agents were determined and number and length of enamel cracks before bonding, after debonding and after  polishing were compared. The number of pronunced cracks and the ARI scores in each group were also compared.
Results:
The mean shear bond strength of Maxcem Elite was significantly lower than Transbond XT.There were significantly more enamel cracks in transbond XT group after debonding and polishing compared to Maxcem Elite.  In both group there was significant difference in number of enamel cracks before and after debonding but after debondfin g and after polishing the difference was not statistically significant.There was no significant difference in the length of enamel cracks between two groups but in each group there was significant increase in the length of enamel cracks after debonding .After polishing the difference was not statiostically significant.
Concolusions:
maxcem Elite has clinically acceptable bond strength and can be used as a routine adhesive for orthodontic purposes with lower risk of enamel damaging.
