Class II Malocclusion , Diagnosis & Treatment Planning
Morteza Ordobazari
Professor, Dept. of Orthodontics, Dental School, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences
What is the problem?
In Angle classification emphasize the ( distal ) positioning of the mandible to the maxilla In Class II Malocclusion , but of course many Class II cases are seen in which the maxilla Is prognathic -- quite a different craniofacial morphology but producing a similar molar relationship. And hence the same classification. The mesial groove of the mandibular first permanent molar articulates posteriroly to the mesiobuccal cusp of the maxillary first permanent molar. Although the word distal is commonly used in this manner to describe Ciass II , it is of course wrong , Distal reffers solely to teeth surfaces or directions and the Class II malocclusion involves primarily the bony skeleton .If one wishes to describe the relationship of the mandible to the cranial base , for example , words Such as posterior or dorsal are more correct .
Divisions are as follows :
1) Division 1, 2) Division 2 and 3) Subdivisions.
How is the problem Typified?
Treatment planning are as follows :
1) Treatment planning in the primary dentition .
2) Treatment planning in the early mixed dentition.
3) Treatment planning in the permanent dentition.
4) Treatment planning in the adult patients.
Treatments consiste of :
1 ) Growth modification
2 ) Camouflage
3 ) Surgery
